The Artist
Margaret G. Stermer-Cox (Peggy) is an artist who explores drawing and painting in acrylic, watercolor, colored pencil and linoleum block. The influence of her parents together with Peggy’s own experience has shaped a style that is unique.
Peggy is a lifelong student of visual artist John H. Stermer, her father (see biography at www.johnstermer.com). Drawing and painting since childhood, Peggy’s training has largely been through observation, practice and discussions with her father. Composition, form and color dominated the discussions. While painting, Peggy was encouraged to observe, experiment and draw, draw, then draw some more. Peggy’s mother, Lucianna Stermer, contributed a sense of humor to drawing. The result is a style unique to Peggy.
Peggy is a member of the Northwest Watercolor Society and the National Watercolor Society.
Vision:
My favorite subject is my imagination. I like to take images that I see in life and re-arrange them in a new way. I purposely begin many paintings with random bursts of colors so I will not try to be strictly realistic. Then, I enjoy the challenge of working my imagination and the subject to create a work that looks “right”, or the way it ought to be.
